2M Black
The 2M Black stands at the pinnacle of Ortofon’s moving magnet lineup, designed to deliver the most precise and detailed vinyl playback possible from an MM cartridge. At its heart is the Shibata diamond stylus, the same premium diamond used in the acclaimed MC Jubilee. Its ultra-fine, highly polished profile ensures maximum groove contact and delivers breathtaking resolution, especially in the high-frequency range.
Exceptional Tracking, Impeccable Fidelity
With its superior stylus geometry, the 2M Black offers:
-
Unparalleled detail retrieval
-
Reduced stylus and record wear
-
Lower distortion and phase error
Every note, nuance, and texture of your records is rendered with breathtaking realism and emotional impact.
Engineered for Performance
The 2M Black and 2M Bronze share a precision-engineered cartridge body made from a high-rigidity Noryl plastic/glass composite, chosen for its ability to eliminate unwanted resonance. Inside, both cartridges feature an upgraded engine design using split pole pins and silver-plated copper wire, ensuring remarkable signal clarity.
Designed for Pure, Uncolored Sound
The 2M series embodies Ortofon’s commitment to neutral, high-fidelity playback. Every element of the 2M Black—from its stylus cut to its internal wiring—is tuned for accurate, color-free sound reproduction. The result is a cartridge that honors the integrity of your music, exactly as the artist intended.

Design Inspired by Diamonds
Developed in partnership with renowned Danish design firm Møller Jensen Design, the 2M’s angular styling mirrors the facets of a diamond—both aesthetically and functionally elegant. The name 2M reflects “MM” for Moving Magnet, and the range follows the progression of Red → Blue → Bronze → Black, each tier offering enhanced performance.
A Legacy of Excellence
The 2M Black was the final project overseen by legendary Ortofon engineer Per Windfield, concluding his 30-year tenure with a cartridge that would become the definitive statement in MM design.
