The Momentum C2 is a significant advancement over its predecessor, the Momentum HD Preamplifier. Expanding on the well-received framework of the Momentum Preamplifier platform, the Momentum C2 incorporates technical features and sonic attributes inspired by the flagship Relentless Preamplifier.

Initially developed as the C4, in reference to its new Complementary Four-Circuit topology that makes up the unique input stage, the extent of the advancement within other sections of the component goes far beyond its front-end circuitry, necessitating a name that underscores the magnitude of this new concept:

Optimized Design for Superior Performance

A dedicated audio chassis and separate power supply are utilized to achieve optimal mechanical and electrical isolation. These two chassis are interconnected using specialized electro-mechanical connectors integrated within each unit.

• Thirty-pin interlocking connectors, gold plated and capable of handling 20 amps, replace conventional wiring, reducing the risk of potential anomalies.
• This distinctive configuration guarantees complete isolation of the audio signal from the power supply components.
• The physical segregation creates additional space for the optimization of both power and audio circuitry.

Enhanced Digital Capability

New for the Momentum C2 Preamplifier is an advanced digital suite:

• An LED display provides operational status and metadata from digital music sources when equipped with the optional Digital Streaming Module (DSM).
• A new two-way Bluetooth remote control mirrors this information for intuitive use.

Audio Circuitry Highlights

This circuitry represents an evolution from the use of JFET transistors in D’Agostino preamplifiers, first introduced in the Momentum HD Preamplifier and further perfected in the Momentum C2.

• A distinct four-JFET transistor push-pull design significantly enhances input impedance.
• With an input impedance surpassing 1 megaohm, the JFETs stand as the least noisy devices available.
• A unique discrete dual-complementary differential JFET input stage features a voltage input signal capability of an extraordinary 30 volts.
• The front end is immune to source-related electrical issues.
• A proprietary circuit maintains stable bias, offsetting temperature-related anomalies for consistent performance.
• A fully complementary, direct-coupled, balanced signal path with zero negative feedback ensures an ultra-wide frequency response, flat to 120 kHz.

• All signal gain is realized in the current domain using proprietary multiple-output current mirrors with nearly 30 times the linearity of other designs.
• Four-layer circuit boards dramatically reduce distortion and propagation losses.
• Analogue and digital circuit elements, including ground planes, are isolated.
• Digital control signals are optically coupled to analogue circuits.
• Gold-plated, hermetically sealed relays ensure maximum signal integrity.

Volume control is a standout feature:

• Crafted with 14 distinct components for ultra-smooth response.
• Bandwidth and transient response remain unaffected by volume setting.
• Volume levels are displayed elegantly via Swiss watch-inspired volume wands or numerically (0 to 99).
• A headphone jack, with independent amplifier circuitry, is discreetly concealed behind a front-panel door.

Power Supply Highlights

• Housed in a separate chassis for superior isolation.

Optional Digital Streaming Module (DSM)

The Momentum C2 Preamplifier is the first D’Agostino Momentum preamplifier to offer an optional Digital Streaming Module, expanding connectivity and streaming capabilities.

• Includes SPDIF coaxial, Optical, USB-B, RJ45 connections.
• Supports 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet for high-resolution network playback.
• Native integration with Tidal, Qobuz, Spotify, and Tidal Connect.
• MQA decoding enabled for appropriately encoded files.
• Roon Ready certification available.
• Decodes PCM signals up to 32-bit/384 kHz and DSD up to DSD256 (11.2MHz) natively.

Internally, balanced connections ensure optimal signal transfer to the C2 circuitry stage, leveraging the full potential of the preamplifier’s analog circuitry.
