Michell

Michell Engineering has been manufacturing turntables since 1977 when it created the Michell Reference Electronic. Their Gyrodec turntable was introduced in the early 1980’s and is one of the most iconic turntable designs of all time and is still in production. A key attribute of Michell turntables is their ability to be upgraded and maintained easily, which means that they’ll deliver satisfaction for decades.

Created by John Michell in the early sixties the company was originally known for its precision engineering and working for the nearby film industry in North London. During this time John Michell got to know Stanley Kubrick and helped to create models for several films including building the space ship ‘Discovery’ for the film ‘2001 – A Space Odyssey’, which is said to have been the inspiration for the GyroDec. John also provided The Reference Hydraulic Transcription Turntable for Kubrick’s notorious 1972 film ‘A Clockwork Orange’.

Michell has continued to deliver outstanding quality turntables that offer performance way beyond their price bracket. If you’re looking for a truly iconic turntable from one of Britain’s premier Hi-Fi marques then Michell is the brand for you.
