Astounding sound quality from this inexpensive (£159.95) DAC from Musical Fidelity. Martin Colloms writing in HiFi Critic thinks it is one of the best DACs on the market regardless of price. It achieves this amazing value for money by changing the usual proportion of cost between the functional electronics and other non-functional parts such as metalwork, front panels and packaging. The result of this careful engineering is that the V-Series has state-of-the-art, no compromise circuitry housed in a nicely finished but modest package. Most importantly it offers state-of-the-art performance for a very modest price. More importantly it is so reasonably priced we must put it in a much wider range of retail outlets than usual. The V-DAC is a sensational state-of-the-art 24-bit 192K true upsampling DAC. By any measurement its performance is way beyond so-called state-of-the-art competition. The V-DAC has lower noise, better linearity, ruler flat frequency response, excellent stereo separation, ultra low distortion and incredibly low jitter. There’s no trickery here. It’s simply that they use state-of-the-art digital components (these are very expensive) and implement them with state-of-the-art circuitry and layout. The V-DAC is rather like an F1 racing car. It is completely functional with no excess flab or wastage anywhere. The V-DAC has inputs for, coax, optical and USB. It is a state-of-the-art DAC.
